As you can see, I have finally completed making the book cover!! From my previous post, I have already created a draft for my

book cover by I still need to make some improvements. I needed to pick the best colors font and many others.

I started off trying out different fonts I have but I none of them looked good, so I took my time looking at free fonts onlineand I searched for fonts that were condensed and I settled with the font Montepetrum.

After I chose the font, I started working with different colors, I tried out different color combinations and I came up with the colors green with purple. (sorry I don’t have the image, I deleted it). But I realize it still looked dull and I tried and tried again using various color until a point of realization. Instead of using just two color for the book cover, I added more colors. I added the color of the waiter’s skin, sleeves and the platter and it’s cover.

Now, It looks way better than the original. So then I started trying out different colors for the

background. I looked up Kelli Anderson’s works and looked at the different colors she used for her work. In the end, I chose to use the color orange and I added some texture.

Once I added all the text and images onto the background, I am complete!

Here are the before and after designs for my book cover.

If we compare the two designs, it clearly shows that the newly made design looks better then the original. Not only is the new design more aesthetically pleasing but it became more eye catching since the brightness and the colorfulness of the overall design has increased. The words in the new designs is also easier to read since a new type was used. I think it was worth the time doing some visual research (color, type…etc) and finding ways that can help improve my design.

Besides that, below is a list of things I really have to complete quickly!

  • Complete collection of case studies
    • Analyse the “Process”
    • Analyse the “Product”
    • Create list of questions for “GINDO 2013 logo”
  • Complete analyses of Survey results
  • Complete reading all book resources
    • Design Evolution

I got one more week before school starts and I think I am able to complete this list in time!

In addition, completing the designing part of this project really connected with my project’s AOI, Human Ingenuity. Human Ingenuity is about the processes and products of human creativity and this connects to what I am doing because I can creating a book cover using my creativity!
