After the field trip you and your group of four are going to put together an i-movie, or presentation of your investigation. You must include the photo’s and other evidence collected during your field trip. Each group will present on one section of the trip. Think about and analyze the following:
Group 1- Your lunch: What did each person in your group eat? Zach Aldo
Igor jinpyo
Where did all the food you eat come from? Local ingredients or shipped from another country? What effects does that have on the environment?
How did it get from the farm/nature to your plate? Igor Shila
Is this harming nature in any way (taking from the ocean, deforestation, use of chemicals, effects on ecosystems)? Josh Georgina aldy
How much waste (trash, packaging, waste) did you create in one meal? If you were to eat this meal 350 days of the year, how much (in weight) garbage can be directly linked to YOU addinHow does it make you feel? Josh Aldo
What could you, or the company do to reduce this waste? Ander aldy:
What could you do eat foods that have less impact on the environment? Ander aldy
Are there any habitats or animals at risk due to our diets? Ander Shila
Find a newspaper article that relates to this issue to share with the class. Zach Shila
Group 2- Water Treatment Plant
What was the name of the Water treatment centre?
How much water goes through the treatment plant everyday?
Where does the water come into the plant?
Explain the steps, processes and equipment used to clean and treat the water at this plant and other treatment plants.
Record how many liters of water (approx.) each person in your group uses every day.
Research and think of ways to reduce your water usage.
Where does the polluted water that is not treated go?
What are the implications (problems) of this type of pollution on ecosystems and organisms?
Describe 3-5 problems facing our rivers, oceans and organisms living in them (try to find a few specific examples)
Find a newspaper article that relates to this issue to share with the class.
Group 3- Landfill
Describe what you saw at the landfill and show images of how it made you feel when you first approached. Ian
Find photos of 5-10 other landfills in the world and show where they are and what you see in the landfill. Shawn Dave
Research steps environmentalists take to ensure no harmful chemicals seep in to the soil. Are they taking these precautions in Indonesia? Compare to another countries garbage disposal processes. Dave Denzel
If harmful chemicals get into the soil what does it affect? Ian
Name some items that are extremely harmful to put in a landfill and tell why. Shawn
Investigate why you saw so many of ONE item (the 5 of one thing). Denzel
Express how being at the landfill made you feel by showing a photo and an explanation (or a poem) of your feelings. Dave
How can we reduce or limit what goes into the landfill? ALL
Find a newspaper article that relates to this problem to share with the class. Ian
Group 4 – Location: Recycling plant
Name some items that go in the landfill, but should be reused, recycled or reduced.
How long does it take for some items to biodegrade?
Share what you were surprised to see recycled.
Do people get money for recycling? If so how much?
Are people recycling in every country? Some more than others? Why? Research and explain.
How can we get items to the recycling plant rather than the landfill?
