In doing the unit test, I think I work smart AND hard because I answered the hard questions first, then the easy ones lastly the medium questions but I didn’t finish the test in one class period so it means that I don’t work effectively enough. I also forgot about relatively prime numbers, now I know what it is. In the future I will answer the questions that I’m confident with then I can spent the rest of the time solving the ones I’m not confident. I also will study the vocabulary words more.
In EAL, we learned about ancient civilization. We put into partners and have to make a short movie with our partner. My partner is Dhanita, we chose to make a movie about mummy, Cleopatra and King Tut’s Curse. Here is our movie:
Blog Response – Ancient Egypt
We also have read an article about Ancient Egypt. From this article I am interested abut mummies. I am interested in the way the Egyptians made a mummy from dead king or queen or even sometimes, a cat(it must be a special cat). I learned that the Egyptians first removed all the organs from the dead body then thy filled the body with sat and dry it for around about 40 days. Next, they bathed the body with spices(so the body will not stink). Lastly, they wrapped the body and put it inside a tomb. Interesting isn’t it?
I’s not only interested in mummies but also about the King Tut’s curse which I discovered from the article, it says that there were found a carve on the tomb of King Tut that says ‘Death will [come to] whoever disturbs the peace of the pharaoh’. One of the people who discovered it, Lord Carnarvon died soon after he opened the tomb and 6 out of the 26 people who joined at the opening of King Tut’s tomb died within 10 years. No one really knows if the curse is real or not so that is why I’m interested in it.
I am now interested in a book called ‘The Dead End’. It’s about a girl named Casey, her parents bought a house for them to live for the rest of summer. She found out that the house was haunted and she discovered the story behind it from a diary that the she found. The diary was owned by the last owner who lived and died at the same home. That is why I think this book is really fun, exciting and interesting to read.
In Drama we learned about ritual and we work in groups to make a new ritual. I am pretty happy with the progress that my group made from before up to now because we actually finish our ritual and we just have to make some parts more powerful and practice more so we know exactly what are we suppose to do in our ritual.
Last lesson, we perform part of our ritual and we have some feedback from friends and teachers. They said that some part of my ritual is not really dramatic and powerful and so my group have to fix it. We really need feedback because without people giving us feedback, we can’t improve our ritual and we will never know what we did well and what we did not well.
In English, we watched How To Train Your Dragon and we have to picked a scene and we have to explain what the director do with the setting, music and camera movements to support the mood of the scene.
Here is my project:
And this is what I said in my presentation:
Hello everyone, I’m going to show you a scene from the movie how to train your dragon and I will explain to you about the settings, music and camera movements that the director used to support the scene
In this part of the scene, the rocks and wood at the background have an unnerving impact on the viewers and make the viewer feel like in the stone age.
The camera moves slowly from one angle/ side or character to another and zooms to heighten the suspense.
Look at the dark green clouds here which make the scene look more threatening, dangerous and mysterious and it make the viewers really get the suspense of it.
At times the cameraman, to get a dramatic effect, direct his camera behind the characters as if the viewers can get the same view as the characters. This is called a point of view shot.
The background music sounds suspenseful and ominous. The choices that the director use are making me feel suspenseful and scared.
Sometimes the background is made very dark to give more effects to the bright parts of the body of a certain character like eyes, hands, faces, and other.
In this part, as you can hear, the music changes from creepy and odd to playful and joyful. These things make me feel more comfortable. The colors are brighter than the other scenes that shot in the village and these make the viewer feel happy and less scared. When hiccups and toothless fly together, the shots here are taken from above the objects to give a natural effects of actions to the viewers so the viewers feel like they are flying above them.
This part is taken from a distance to make the view look very large and very down below and also makes the characters look very small in contrast with the surrounding
From here, the music starting become more heroic, exciting and winning and that makes me feel thrilled.
In EAL, we learned about irregular past tenses and we made our own digital story using past tense. Here is my story:
In science class, we learned vocabulary words ( atom, molecule, element and compound). Here are some explanation about the things that we have learned:
Atom: Everything is made out of atom, it is a very very small thing, we can’t see atom with naked eye.
Molecule: 2 or more atoms bond together become molecules. Molecules are very small we can’t see it with naked eye.
Element: An element is made from molecules that made out of the same atom ( #-#).
Compound: A compound is made from molecules that made out of different atoms ( #-@).
We also did an activity where we need to make a model of atom, O2, CO2, H2O, H2O2 and CH4.
In Humanities, we learned about how nomad change to farming. We watch a video from youtube about how farming developed and here are my response to the video:
Before farming begins, the nomadic people wonder around the globe to hunt for food. They only job in their life is to survive by hunting for food. They fish and hunt animals.
In my opinion, farming begin with the nomadic people founding out that they can plant vegetables and crops so they started to farm and stopped wondering around to search for food.
After they figure out to plant, they also found out that a land near river and lake makes the plant grow better by that, they don’t have to wonder for food anymore, they can use their spare time to think about other things, solving problems they faced in farming and so things started to invented like wheels, writing were also invented from farming. And civilization started to developed. Without farming, I think our lives will be miserable right now because we have to look around for food, we can’t just go to supermarket and buy food if farming didn’t begun and also population on Earth is also getting bigger so if there is no farming, we don’t know how to produce food and how if the food around the world are finished?? what will we eat everyday?? So farming made a huge influence to our planet.
In math, our unit question is ‘How do we work smart not hard?’ and we learned ways to work smart not hard. Here are some ways that we learned this unit.
1. Know and use divisibility rules. (open this to see my divisibility rules post).
2. Use models to show your thinking (e.g. ♦♦ + ♦♦ = ♦♦♦♦)
3. Write notes neatly and be organize so you can understand your notes easyly.
4. Use mental math strategies to help you solve math problems.
5. Search information from internet, people’s blog or videos from youtube about strategies in solving math problems.
6. Use ladder method or other method of prime factorization to find the CF, GCF, CM and LCM of numbers.
7. Memorize prime numbers from 1 up to 100.
8. Look for patterns in a problem.
9. Understand mathematical words: prime, composite, odd, even, abundant, perfect, etc.
10. Look for other solved problems that are similar with the problem that you solve.
