For our communication assessment on colonization in Indonesia me and my group members, Aimee and Annisa made an iMovie to communicate our knowledge to other people in our class. The time frame that our group was looking at was the Dutch’s colonial empire and their occupation which happened around 1596-1902.

The Dutch Colonial Empire is an interesting topic to look at. Being Indonesian, I felt that it is important for us to know our own history and the Dutch is an important part of our journey to independence. Previously, I have done an in-depth research about this topic. Starting from how Indonesia was found by a Dutch Explorer named Cornelius de Houtman to Indonesia’s resistance against the Dutch.

You can watch our video below~

I think our iMovie is really well-done and my group also succeed in making the topic more interesting to learn about. The information in our movie was also relevant. We listened to our classmates’ feedbacks and also Mr. Rick’s. Mr. Rick told us that it would be better if we have managed our time better so we would be able to prepare appropriate costume and make it even more interesting and memorable to the audience and we also get positive feedbacks about how our voices are strong and very clear in the movie.

From my presentation, the main thing that I really need to improve at is time management. Because in my opinion this project can be presented better if we have managed our time effectively and communicate between our team members well. This will be a lesson that I can learn from in the future when doing my other projects.

Gamelan

In music class, we’ve been learning how to play an Indonesian traditional music instrument called gamelan. Gamelan consists of a lot of instruments. Like bonang, gender, gong, kenong, gendang, selentem, and demung. There were a lot of instruments I want to play, but I ended up playing the instrument that is called gender. We had a special teacher from Java that taught us how to play. This is our second week playing gamelan and I thought it was pretty fun. It was tiring hitting the instruments with the mallet, but I really like the sound of gamelan. So far we have learnt 2 patterns and they weren’t that difficult to play. Below is a video of me playing the instrument, but the quality is not that good because I haven’t had time to edit it.

For this natural disasters humanities project, we are working in groups. My group is myself, Ivonne, and Selena. We decided to work on Japan Earthquake that happened in 11 March 2011. So, for the final product, we made a movie… ENJOY~~

It wasn’t the best movie but we worked really hard to make this movie. Please give some comments or some suggestions so I can do a better job next time! thank you ^^
