The unit was about watching a film called E.T which stands for Extra Terrestrial. Basically, is about an alien being left out on our planet which is earth. Then he went to the city. And so on. The AOI is to develop an awareness and understanding of yourself in a wider society. Also reflecting upon ourselves and others in relationships and growing up. The objectives are in criterion A and B. Well, my full understanding about the AOI in this unit is that I have put myself in the wider society. So our task after watching the film is using the notes we took, we were ask to create a director’s cut in the movie that we watched before. After that we need to make our own movie with a group of members. My group members is Riam, Kevin, Me and James. I did well on acting. In our movie I am the main character so I runned fast from here to there like a professional actor acts. Then, Kevin was the man hunter. Basically, our movie is about chasing movies and blood everywhere. I enjoy being a part of the group member because I like to cooperate whenever being in a group with boys. Not girls. The challenges that I faced is taking notes on the movie, because they talk to fast in the movie. I like cooperating because I want to be part of the group member. So if I don’t work as a group, I will not succeed. The teacher knows what I am doing in the group. I would change my attitude of cooperating because, honestly, I as a group member must not be mad at each other, moreover, I get easily mad to be honest. I have no suggestion because I indeed agree of doing this unit. So I would like to thank Mr. Jabiz. I would tell the students to do nothing at all. Read more of the blog posts that I have posted about E.T here.
In class, we learned a lot about camera shots. One of the shots that we focused on is called over the-shoulder shot. I enjoy learning camera shots. Here’s my script I made during the scenes that I recorded:
A close up of the truck. He is using a tilt up to make the truck look big. When we see this big truck we feel we are small and scared. He uses a back light to make the truck look dark and scary.
Here we see another close up, but different angle. But again tilt up. The light is like a spot light showing the target.
This shot is very similar too the first shot. It is dark and spooky. All we see are shadows and lights, but now we have a slow pan shot to show the other trucks entering the scene. The camera tilts down to show E.T hiding.
The next shot is a medium wide shot showing half of the UFO and E.T’s father. Also showing that his father is looking for him for a certain amount of time.
This shot is zooming towards E.T’s body that shines; meaning that he found the UFO and his father that is searching for him in the forest.
This next scene the police officers turned the flashlight towards E.T’s face. Then, E.T screamed and tried to escape from the officers.
The scene after, the officers are chasing him all the way. Then the lights of all the cars turned off. ET kept running.
This scene also is a medium wide shot that also shows half of the UFO. His father kept waiting inside. He decided to give up and go home to his planet. The lights in the UFO went out and the stairs went back to place.
The next scene, E.T looks very upset because his father left him on Earth. This wide shot tells a picture that E.T’s next plan is heading to the city.
Here’s the video, hope u enjoy:
In this unit, we learned a lot about debating. Well, I am in the against side which debates about not letting the refugees in Australia. I wrote a letter about not letting the refugees in to the prime minister of Australia which is Julia Gillard. So enjoy reading my letter:
December 13 2011
PO Box 6022
House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600
Dear Ms. Prime Minister,Julia Gillard, my name is Steven. And I realized that you had been having a major problems to rethink the policies about the solutions to accepting refugees to this country. To me, although Australia has signed the contract to the UN, it is a bad idea to accept the refugees because it can affect the Australians badly and have negative impacts to the citizens and the society. Here I will prove you wrong that Australia should accept refugees.
To me letting the refugees in is a major mistake because as I said in the introduction, Australians might be affected by the refugees badly. In the first point, I will show you how negative it will be to get affected by the refugees. The negative impacts of letting refugees in is going to make the prime minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, to rethink the policies again. Moreover, the government for sure will be having a major headache to take action towards the problems that Australians are having.
Well, in France, there are many of the people of France who are letting the Islams in. The second topic is related to the conflicts in France of both of their cultures. In France, there are lots of Muslims being let in to the country. But the government banned people from wearing headscarf and “burqa”, that triggers demonstrations. Briefly, let me explain to you why Australia should not let refugees in because this problem could happen in Australia too if we let refugees with very different cultures in. Australia will be in a chaotic situation because of demonstrations and riots.
The last point, before I move on to the conclusion, is the population growth in Australia. Let me tell you Ms. Prime Minister that the more we let to refugees in, the more we let refugees in, the more the population growth will grow. Well, to me Australia is a big continent. In addition, it has about 22,788,816 people. So as I said Ms. Prime Minister, if Australia’s government accepted refugees in, for sure the population will increase a lot.
So, it is now clear that letting refugees in Australia is not a bad thing but is a bad idea. It has been proven that letting them in might have negative impacts for example, a riot in Australia about racism, the growth of the population in Australia, and other negative things that could possibly make Australia’s Prime Minister rethinking rules and policies. Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely Yours,
Steven Huang
The questions that I chose from the book that we read in English class is:
Why did the government blow up Jamal’s house?
Yesterday, we as a class, planned to interview an Afghani who has a LOT of information about his country. It’s our great chance because we are learning about Afghanistan now. So he was an Afghani who doesn’t know what his childhood is like because he never even had one. His family was killed by the Talibans. So he had a hard life but he succeed. He went to Pennsylvania to study in college. He is now a blogger and a photographer. And our teacher Mr. Jabiz kept in touch with Nasim.
Finally, we met Nasim, he was a talented man. He was mostly talented in blogging and taking pictures. We asked him to tell us about his experiences in Afghanistan. We also asked some questions related to his experience in Afghanistan. Find Nasim’s blog here.
Here are some pictures of our interview with Nasim:
In the video I watched in English class, it was clearly about Afghanistan. It shows what afghanistan is like and the houses there were made of orange rocks and dust everywhere. I saw the citizens there who was caring and happy. I never was them as happy as they were in this video. They provided celebrations, the women in the kitchen was cooking food, and they shared food together at the houses in Afghanistan. Their jobs were gardening or even farming. They showed hard work. They are also talented in arts and sports. They have beautiful landscapes.
I like Indonesia because it has interesting cultures such as dances like “Tari Kecak,” which means Kecak Dnace and other Indonesian cultures. I am very proud of my country because Indonesia accepts any religion such as Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, etc. I love my country because of the governor’s politeness to all the people in Indonesia. And mostly the government in Indonesia is very generous to all the poor people in Indonesia by giving them the things that they need such as free education for the kids and food. My family loves Indonesia too because they agree with me that to help Indonesia by giving the poor their needs is a true generosity to the country.
In this video, you will watch a presentation of me and my partner about the country Afghanistan. In the process of making it, we used a green screen to present, and we worked very hard that we perfectly finished the presentation. We worked together as partners, researching a lot of information about Afghanistan. The 2 things that will stick with me is the meaning of the colors of Afghanistan’s flag, and the traditional music of Afghanistan. The question that I will ask to an Afghani is what kind of technology do they have there.
Bibliography:
A refugee is a person who has been pushed away from his or her home and seeks refuge elsewhere. Because documentation is brought by a refugee, a refugee is different from an asylum seeker. A refugee is more narrowly defined (in Article 1A) as a person who “owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country” under the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951. Click here if you need more information. Here’s a picture to show what a refugee looks like:
The sun was shining in the morning, which filled the wooden dojo floor with gold. There is no one in the dojo, it’s just a simple old training ground. The dojo was as hot as a burned hairdryer in a small house without a single air conditioner. The dojo was very old since it was built. Occasionally, trainers took lessons for little kids who wanted to learn Kung-Fu.
There once lived a 13 year old boy name James, which he is now staring at the dojo by the window right now, then James went back to the kitchen area. In the kitchen, there are decorations and stickers that James sticked when he was a little child. As James was very hungry in the kitchen, in his home, finding food in the kitchen cabinet. And his mother and father were in their office working. Usually they went home at 2 ‘o’ clock in the morning. Then a man pass by James’ house. James thought to himself ‘where is he going?’ Well, the man went to the dojo to have a Kung-Fu practice beside his house. As soon as James saw the man going there, he followed him.
Then, as soon as he arrive there which takes him only 2 minutes of walking there, James tried not to make any single sound like a ninja spyed the enemy in some movies, then he accidenly stepped on a broken wood which made a crack on the wooden dojo floor. Before, James didn’t realize that was a broken wooden dojo floor.
Then James, hiding in the table for he do not want to disturb the man who was practicing Kung-Fu. When that man kicked the bell which it’s 4 meters high, James accidently shouted, “Wow!”. As soon as that man saw James which was sneeking through the dojo, he said,”What are you doing here, kid?” “I just want to see you do Kung-Fu.” “What’s your name?” the man asked the boy.”James, James Parker. How about yours?” “Jackie, Jackie Chan.” James realized that he is the movie star who played the movie,’Shanghai Nights.’ Then he closed his mouth which he wanted to shout but he didn’t ‘cause he planned to keep that secret inside his heart.
Then James went home and slept for an hour and a half, and as soon as James’ parents went home from work, which it’s still 7’o’clock, James was so happy that it was the first time that James’ parents went home at 7. ‘Wow’ James whispered to himself.
The next day, James was going through the refrigerator eating one by one the foods. Then he went to the dojo again to get his everyday practice with Jackie Chan. Today he learnt “Attitude.” To be a kung-fu master, it requires Attitude because if it’s not Attitude, then they do not know who wins or loses because they might be fighting for trophies.
