MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Every year, the joyous Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eight-month in the Chinese Lunar calendar. This year the festival fell on 12th of September. The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays.
At SWA, we organized moon cake making and lantern making at our Zheng He Tea House. During the week, the students learned about the traditions, stories, poems that are associated with the festival.
On the night of Mid Autumn Festival, SWA staff, students and parents gathered and enjoyed an enchanted evening. The evening started with a lantern procession from the Rain Forest Walk to the Peace Park (Mu Xin Yuan). Everyone carried brightly lit lanterns, led by Mr John, Ms Hui, Ms Anna and Ms Meijin, and ended at the outdoor stage in Mu Xin Yuan Park. The SWA campus came alive with people and their lanterns. It was a truly magnificent scene. The students then performed songs, poetry recital, drama, music and songs. The other highlight of the night was setting off coconut “boats” with candles lit up in them. The boats floated around the statues of music ladies in the pond at Mu Xin Yuan Park. It was just purely magical!
The evening concluded with admiring the bright moon, drinking tea, and eating moon cakes and fruit in Gajah Mada. Everybody obviously enjoyed this happy and festive evening. The Chinese teachers who worked so hard to organize this event were so ecstatic about the positive feedback from the community that they plan to make this happen annually. Moreover, they have already started talking about and planning for the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, in cooperation with PTA bazaar. More information will be sent out in due course. Stay tuned!
