DAZZLING DIWALI!
Diwali is the Festival of Lights; it comes from the Sanskrit, Deepawali, which means “row of lights.” Students and faculty wore lovely bright clothes in celebration of Diwali. There was an Indian lunch provided by PSU at Bamboo Court and the Arts Center was beautifully decorated with saris and there was information posted about Diwali.
At lunchtime there were excellent performances. Mr Dani was the MC for the lunchtime-show. He was terrific! Ms Yulia and Mr Anwar choreographed the first dance of the afternoon. The teachers and staff from ES and MSHS (Ms Yulia, Ms Hani, Ms Sam, Mr Anwar, Mr Didik, Ms Riri, Ms Rizkha, Ms Susan, Ms Vivi, and Ms Darma) came out with candles and began their very enthusiastic, foot-tapping dance. They were really good.
Grade 2B performed to “Jai Ho!” They did a great job as well. You could tell they were having so much fun! Ms Briony was very proud of her class.
The performances ended with Grade 4G dancing the “Garba/ Dandiya.” It is an Indian dance form that originated in the Gujarat region. Garbas are generally performed around a lit lamp during Diwali; Ms Gauri decided to have the students dance without the lamps. The students were enthusiastic, the music was magical, and the dance was superb. They were all coordinated so well and they were fascinating to watch. Ms Gauri did a fine job choreographing this dance.
All in all fun was had despite the storms outside.
Thank you SWA for celebrating Diwali!
