Congratulations to the ‘Class of 2012’ who attended their official Graduation Ceremony on Saturday June 2 in the Trini Dewi Theater at SWA.

Many thanks to all those who joined us for this very special day, both for our Graduates and for the school itself. Our first graduating class is a significant milestone in the school’s development and we are very proud of the students’ achievements.

The ceremony was attended by SWA parents, guests, Board members and staff. We were honored to have the former US Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency Cameron Hume as our Commencement Speaker. Other speakers included CEO, John McBryde; HS Principal, Paul Sebastian and students, Khosyi Yoga Pratama and Carmel Moersalim.

It’s been a very busy year for the teachers and students in the Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10) as we prepare for IB authorization in November 2012. Our teachers have been busy refining their curriculum and unit planners to best meet the Aims and Objectives and the Assessment Criteria of their subject areas. Students have grown more comfortable with Unit Questions, the Areas of Interaction and reflecting on their work through the different Assessment Criteria.

Our Grade 10 students did a fantastic job on their Personal Projects with the help of Mr. Gavin Johnson and their supervisors, and this year’s Grade 9 students are already busy at work choosing topics for their projects next year. Mr. Rick Hannah has been guiding our MYP students in some very exciting and powerful Community and Service Projects. We are excited to be part of the IB MYP, which has grown to include 934 schools in 75 different countries. We look forward to welcoming some very experienced MYP teachers to our staff next year. A few months ago, Bobo, a well-known children’s magazine came to SWA. Bobo has a special page called ‘School Buzz’ and for this page, they chose Grade 2 and Grade 4 students to interview on the topic of “Which part of school do you like best”. Some of the SWA student responses were:

• “Soccer Field! Lapangan Bola. Aku suka main bola”.

•  “Kolam renang! Aku suka sekali berenang”.

•  “Bamboo Court Café! Saya suka café ini, karena ini tempat yang keren”.

The students did a great job and their work was published in Bobo on 15 March.
