Recently SWA teacher Jane Ross, was invited by Apple Singapore, to run two days of workshops in Surabaya on ‘Using iMacs in Teaching and Learning’. Jane conducted the two-day workshops in Indonesian and showed off numerous digital films and presentations created by our students at SWA. The principals from the national group of Petra schools were very eager to learn more about how to use technology in the teaching and learning process. Petra currently has 28 schools with over 1,000 teachers and 40,000 students. They were most impressed with how easily our students can use the programs in the Mac to demonstrate their learning.

Jane is one of only two Apple Professional Developers in Indonesia and is currently preparing to facilitate cohorts and lead some workshops in Beijing at the next educational conference ‘Learning 2.012′, which are scheduled for this month. She will be presenting about SWA student publishing to the Apple iBookstore.

Our resident Math Champ, Moses Mayer has picked up a few more medals on the international circuit, along with his sister, Gabriella Gwen. Congratulations to both students.

EPIC is the only word to describe the first season for the girl’s league. The league was made of five teams, which included JIS, DIS, SIS, Global Jaya and SWA.

We had the biggest squad with over 16 girls from Grade 10 down to Grade 6 entering. A lot of our players were well under the age bracket, but you couldn’t tell on the pitch, as they were all committed and really enjoyed the experience of competing against older players.

The first day of games saw us play SIS in a great game, which ended 1-1, and in the following games we had victory over Global Jaya and a draw against DIS, before our first defeat against JIS. This meant JIS had won the league, but in the final game of the season we had to play SIS, which meant whoever won that match would finish second for trophies and medals.

The game was one of the best of the season and we managed to come out really strong, winning 1-0. This meant we were the second place team; a massive achievement for such a young squad.

I am therefore going to give the praise these players deserve with a short individual account of their season.

In goal, Cynthia the ‘Cat’ came up with outstanding saves. In defense, Freya the ‘Rock’ would not lets things pass and in the final game was accompanied by Bonnie the ‘Wall’ who was equally as solid in defense. Now Elena and Monica I can’t mention alone as they do everything together – the ‘Bash Sisters’ were ever dependable and always smiling. In midfield we had Jenny ‘Twinkle Toes’ with mesmerizing skills, Angghina the ‘Dependable’ who can play anywhere and get the job done, Sally and Veny, the ‘Engines’, never stop running, always winning the ball. Ga Hyeon and Felista, the ‘Utility Players’ could play anywhere on the pitch. Annisa, Chloe and Sophia, the ‘Young Guns’ always gave 100%. Then we have our strikers, Won the ‘Bullet” with the strongest shot in the league and also top scorer in the league, Raihan the ‘Speedy’, the quickest player in the league, and finally Jacqueline the ‘Lion’, the most improved player this year, who always gives everything.

To sum up, all the girls should be very proud of their achievements, especially for such a young squad. Miss Tracey and I are very proud of them. Well done girls! I would also like to thank Miss Tracey who has been an excellent addition to the coaching.
